Copy to Clipboard – putting text into the user's clipboard¶
The command "Copy to Clipboard" puts a text into the clipboard of the user who runs the action, so they can paste it elsewhere. This page is for administrators who build actions for buttons and app bars.
1. At a glance¶
| Purpose | Copy a computed text into the clipboard of the user |
| Typical use | A "Copy link" or "Copy reference" button on a form |
| Where in the editor | Toolbar menu "UI" → "Copy to Clipboard" |
| Needs a user interface | Yes |
| Needs a current record | No (the expression may read one) |
| Related | Show Popup, Navigate to URL |
2. Settings¶
The setting is on the tab "Settings". Like every command, the command also has "Display Name", "Description" and "Execution Condition" on the tab "General" (see Actions).
| Setting | Meaning | Default / Required |
|---|---|---|
| "Content" | Expression for the text to copy, evaluated against the current record. It can use the variables of the action. | Required |
3. Behaviour¶
- Without a user interface – in a schedule, a background rule, a mailbox listener or the REST API – the command is skipped.
- Without "Content", the command is skipped as well.
- The expression is evaluated and the text is handed to the browser to put into the clipboard.
- If the browser refuses, a warning is written to the log and the action continues. The user gets no message.
The user does not see a confirmation. Add a Show Popup or a toast through Dispatch UI if they should.
4. Example¶
Copy the ticket number. An app bar item "Copy number" on the ticket form runs an action with one command Copy to Clipboard. "Content" is a text expression that joins "Ticket", the public id and the subject of the ticket. The user can paste "Ticket T-1042 – Printer offline" into a chat.
5. Limitations¶
- Whether the browser allows writing to the clipboard is decided by the browser, not by nexxcite. Browsers usually allow it only for pages delivered over HTTPS and while the page has the focus. Please check the documentation of the browser used in your organisation.
- A failure is not shown to the user.
