System function expression – using a built-in value¶
The system function expression returns the result of a function nexxcite provides – the current user, the current time, a new id, information about the current record and more. The complete list is on the page System functions.
1. At a glance¶
| Purpose | Returns the result of a built-in system function |
| Typical use | "Assigned to the current user", time stamps, new ids, the id of the current record |
| Returns | Depends on the function, see System functions |
| Related | Text (system functions can also be inserted into a text directly) |
2. Settings¶
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "System Function" | The function whose result is returned |
In the quick reference list of a setting, the functions appear in the group "System Functions".
3. Behaviour¶
- The function is evaluated anew every time the expression is evaluated.
- Functions about the current record return an empty value (or
false) when there is no current record. - Functions about a control, form or dashboard ("Associated…") only have a value where nexxcite provides it, for example inside a form control.
- A few functions have side effects or cost – see the notes on System functions.
4. Example¶
A query "My open tickets" compares the field "Assigned to" with the system function
CurrentUserRecId.
