Wait – pausing the action¶
The command "Wait" pauses the action for a number of seconds. This page is for administrators who need a short delay between two steps, for example before retrying a request.
1. At a glance¶
| Purpose | Pause the action briefly |
| Typical use | A pause before retrying an external call, giving another system time to process |
| Where in the editor | Toolbar menu "Flow" → "Wait" |
| Needs a user interface | No |
| Needs a current record | No |
| Related | Jump, Scheduled actions |
2. Settings¶
The setting is on the tab "Settings". Like every command, the command also has "Display Name", "Description" and "Execution Condition" on the tab "General" (see Actions).
| Setting | Meaning | Default / Required |
|---|---|---|
| "Wait (Seconds)" | Expression for the number of seconds, as a whole number | Required – without it there is no pause |
3. Behaviour¶
- The expression is evaluated.
- If the result is a whole number greater than 0, the action pauses for that many seconds.
- A decimal number, text, an empty result or a missing expression means no pause. The action continues in every case.
During the pause the action keeps everything it holds – in an interactive run, the user's action is still running and the next command follows only after the pause.
4. Example¶
Pause before a retry. 10 seconds before repeating an HTTP Request – see the
example on the page Jump.
5. Limitations¶
- Use Wait for seconds, not for minutes or hours. For work that has to happen later, use a scheduled action or a business rule that starts an action in the background with a delay (see Business rules).
2.5does not wait 2.5 seconds – it does not wait at all. Only whole numbers count.
