Radio Button Block – one option that writes a fixed value

A radio button block is one radio button. When the user picks it, it writes its value into a field. All radio button blocks of a form that write into the same field form one group: picking one unchecks the others. Each option is a block of its own, with its own place, label and visibility.

This page is part of the form block reference.

1. At a glance

Purpose One option of a choice the form itself decides
Typical use Options that need their own place in the layout, their own visibility or a computed label
Related Input Block with control type RadioButtons or ButtonGroup

Prefer the input block where you can. When the field has a List Validation Rule or a Lookup Validation Rule, an input block with control type RadioButtons draws all options from that rule – one block instead of several, and a new value appears by itself. Use radio button blocks only where the options need what a rule cannot give them. The block is only offered in forms that belong to an entity.

2. Settings

Setting Meaning Default / required
"Field" The field this button writes into. Buttons with the same field form one group. Required
"Value" The value written into the field when the button is picked. Return the value that is stored (a list key, a number, a record id), not its display text. Required. Without it the button stays unchecked and writes nothing.
"Label" Caption beside the button none
"Show label" Condition under which the caption is shown shown
"Disabled" Condition under which the button cannot be picked not disabled
"Focus On Open", "Skip In Tab Order" Places the cursor into the radio button when the form opens; lets the Tab key pass over it. See Cursor and tab key. never, off

In addition, the block has the settings every block has, including "Flush".

3. Behaviour

  • The value is converted to the type of the field.
  • A button is shown as picked while the field holds exactly its value. Value and checked state are therefore the same thing seen from two sides – changing the field elsewhere (an action, a rule) changes which button is picked.
  • The group is formed per form and field. The blocks do not have to stand next to each other.
  • In the expressions of the block, AssociatedFieldValue is the current value of the field.

4. Example

Delivery options with an extra field. The field "Delivery" takes Standard, Express or Pickup. Three radio button blocks write these values. Next to "Pickup" stands an input for the pickup location whose "Visible" condition is Delivery = "Pickup". The "Express" button has "Disabled" = Country <> "DE", so it can only be picked for domestic orders.
