Label Block – text the user reads

The label block shows text that the user cannot edit: a heading, an explanation, or the value of a field that is only read. The text is an expression, so it can combine fixed text with values of the record.

This page is part of the form block reference.

1. At a glance

Purpose Shows text
Typical use Headings, hints, read-only values, a remaining time that counts down
Related Badge Block, HTML Block, Input Block

A label is the right way to show a value nobody may change. A permanently disabled input says the opposite: that the value could be edited.

2. Settings

Setting Meaning Default / required
"Content" The text to show Required. Without it the label is empty.
"Tooltip" Text shown when the pointer rests on the label none
"Copy To Clipboard" (Appearance) Shows a copy button while the pointer is over the text; it copies the shown value off
"Auto Refresh" Evaluates the text again on a clock of its own while the form is open off
"Refresh Interval (s)" Seconds between two refreshes 30

Font size, weight, color and alignment are part of the settings every block has; the label also has "Flush".

3. Behaviour

  • The label is evaluated again whenever the record changes. A value that only changes with the clock needs "Auto Refresh": then only this block is evaluated and redrawn every interval, not the whole form. Every refresh evaluates the label on the server for every open form – choose the coarsest interval that is good enough. If a refresh fails, the last text stays.
  • "Copy To Clipboard" reserves the width of the copy button even while it is hidden, so the layout does not jump when it appears.

4. Examples

Ticket number to copy. "Content" = the field "Ticket Number", "Font Weight" = SemiBold, "Copy To Clipboard" on. A user copies "INC-004711" into a mail with one click.

Remaining time of an SLA. "Content" = an expression that computes "due in 2 h 15 min" from the due date and the current time, "Auto Refresh" on, "Refresh Interval (s)" = 60.
