Navigate – opening a dashboard or search results

The command "Navigate" takes the user to a dashboard or to the results of a query. This page is for administrators who build interactive actions.

1. At a glance

Purpose Show the user a dashboard or a list of records
Typical use Back to "My tasks" after closing a ticket, a menu entry "Open invoices"
Where in the editor Toolbar menu "UI" → "Navigate"
Needs a user interface Yes
Needs a current record No
Related Go To Record, Navigate to URL, quick actions for dashboards and searches

2. Settings

The settings are on the tab "Request Settings". Like every command, the command also has "Display Name", "Description" and "Execution Condition" on the tab "General" (see Actions).

Setting Meaning Default / Required
"Target Type" "Dashboard" or "Search Results". "None" skips the command. None – always set it
"Dashboard" The dashboard to open (with "Dashboard") Required for this type
"Search Results" The query whose results are shown (with "Search Results") Required for this type
"Grid" The grid of the query's entity the results are shown in. Offered once a query is chosen. Empty: the default grid of the entity

3. Behaviour

  1. With "Target Type" "None", the command is skipped.
  2. A user with unsaved changes on the current record is asked first: "Save", "Discard" or "Cancel". "Cancel" ends the action.
  3. Without a user interface, the command is skipped.
  4. Without a target, the command is skipped. If the target no longer exists, the command fails.
  5. The dashboard or the result list is opened, and the action continues.

The current record of the action does not change; the form that showed it is left.

4. Example

Back to the work list. The last command of "Close ticket": Navigate with "Target Type" "Search Results", "Search Results" "My open tickets", "Grid" "Tickets – compact".

5. Limitations

  • Only dashboards and query results can be opened. For a record use Go To Record, for an address Navigate to URL.
  • In a background run the command does nothing.
