Toolbar Block – the buttons of a form

The toolbar block shows an app bar in the form, so its buttons sit with the record they act on. It can also add built-in buttons for saving, refreshing and discarding the record, with or without an app bar.

This page is part of the form block reference.

1. At a glance

Purpose Shows the buttons of an app bar and the built-in record buttons
Typical use The bar at the top of a form with "Save", "Refresh" and the actions of the record

2. Settings

Setting Meaning Default
"App Bar" The app bar whose items are shown. Their actions run against the record of the form. none
"Save Button" Adds a built-in "Save" button that saves the record off
"Refresh Button" Adds a built-in "Refresh" button that reloads the record off
"Discard Button" Adds a built-in "Discard" button that drops the unsaved changes of the record off
"Hide Border" (Appearance) Hides the line below the toolbar, for a toolbar inside a block that has a frame of its own off

At least an app bar or one of the built-in buttons is needed, otherwise the toolbar is empty. In addition, the block has the settings every block has, except "Flush".

3. Behaviour

  • The built-in buttons come first, in the order Save, Refresh, Discard, followed by the items of the app bar.
  • "Save" is only clickable while the record has unsaved changes. After saving, a short message "Saved!" appears.
  • "Refresh" reloads the record, including its attachments.
  • After an item has run, the form is evaluated again.
  • If the user has just changed a value, an item waits until the change is applied.
  • Inside a related items block with a disabled condition, every item of the toolbar is disabled.

4. Example

Standard bar of a ticket form. A toolbar block at the top of the form with "Save Button" and "Refresh Button" on and "App Bar" = "Ticket Actions" (Escalate, Assign to me, Close).

5. Limitations

  • The captions of the built-in buttons ("Save", "Refresh", "Discard") and the message "Saved!" cannot be changed. For other captions, put equivalent actions into the app bar.
